Mustard Tempered Red Lentils

Red lentils finished with mustard oil tempering.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup red lentils (masoor dal)
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp mustard oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • Salt to taste

Steps

  1. Cook lentils with turmeric until soft.
  2. Heat mustard oil in a pan until it smokes lightly. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, garlic, and onions.
  3. Pour this tempering over the cooked lentils, stir, and simmer for 2–3 minutes.
